Swellendam is the third oldest town in South African with inhabitants numbering approximately 17 537. The town boasts more than 50 provincial heritage sites, most of them buildings in the familiar Cape Dutch architectural style.

Situated on N2 national highway, Swellendam makes for a delightful stopover when travelling between Cape Town and the Garden Route towards George. There's a wealth of activities to see and do. NG Church Swellendam

NG Church Swellendam

Swellendam's Dutch Reformed Church is an imposing white eclectic construction, built in 1911. The gables are baroque, the windows Gothic, the cupola vaguely Eastern, and the steeple extravagant. The tower houses two bells that have been painted in silver and that can be seen from the ground. Inside is an interesting tiered amphitheater with banks of curving wood pews facing the pulpit and organ.
